Hummingbird Facts

Hummingbird is from the family of Trochilidae, and are native to the Americas. Hummingbird is found only in the Americas, from southern Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, including the Caribbean. The majority of species occur in tropical Central and South America, but several species also breed in temperate areas.

Hummingbird feeds on the nectar of plants and are important pollinators, especially of deep-throated, tubular flowers. Like bees, they are able to assess the amount of sugar in the nectar they eat.

Kingfishers of all three families beat their prey to death, either by whipping it against a tree or by dropping it on a stone. They are able to see well both in air and under water. To do this, their eyes have evolved an egg-shaped lens able to focus in the two different environments.
