CHIMPANZEE
Chimpanzees are great apes that are closely related to humans. These intelligent primates live in a variety of environments in western and central Africa. Because of the rapid deforestation of their habitats, chimpanzees are an endangered species. Chimpanzees are omnivores (eating plants and meat). They forage for food in the forests during the day, eating leaves, fruit, seeds, tree bark, plant bulbs, tender plant shoots, and flowers. Chimpanzees are social animals that are active during the day. Chimpanzees are covered with black hair on most of their body. Baby chimpanzees have very pale skin in the areas that have no hair and a white tuft of hair on the rump. |
