Johnny Appleseed – The real person
Johnny Appleseed was a farmer. His real name was John Chapman. He was born in the USA. When he was a boy, he said, “I will grow apple trees so that people will never be hungry.”
When Johnny became a young man, he left his house. He took a leather bag with him. His bag was full of apple seeds. He planted the seeds in the forest. He planted them on the side of the road. He planted them by the riverbank. People began to call him, “Johnny Appleseed”.
Johnny carried a brown sack. He did not wear shoes. He slept on the ground. He ate wild fruit and roots. He was a good man. He never killed animals.
His small seeds grew into strong plants. The plants became tall apple trees.
Johnny collected the apples and gave them to the people of America. All countryman applauded the efforts of Johnny Appleseed and rewarded him with gifts.
